A little about Windy Ridge Cottage

Here at Windy Ridge we offer two very comfortable self catering holiday cottages, a one bedroom cottage called  "The Swallows Nest"  and an open plan Studio cottage called  "The Chicken Coop", both have been created by the sympathetic conversion of a traditional old farm building, the cottages are set with in 7 acres of grounds which includes two fishing ponds which are just a short 30 second walk from the cottages, they're stocked with Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd & Gudgeon (click here for fishing details), a small 5 pitch touring caravan site & our house , Guests are welcome to stroll around the lakes, relax and enjoy their stay. Designed to offer a relaxing break away from the daily grind and are perfect for those seeking to explore the delights of the many attractions of the surrounding local area.
Windy Ridge cottages is an adults only (strictly no kids or babies) and offers a pleasant setting for a peaceful break.
The property is within easy reach of Cleethorpes with it’s beautiful beaches and amenities and for the more energetic, you can take a trip into the Lincolnshire Wolds and enjoy the local walks and cycle routes available.   Further afield takes you to the seaside resorts of Mablethorpe and Skegness with great sandy beaches and plenty of fun things to see and do.   For something different, take a trip to the towns of Louth or Horncastle which are famous for their regular street market & antique centres. we're a very easy 20 mins drive to Cadwell Park race track for all you petrol heads.

Thanks to "Barb the crazy chicken lady" incubating and breeding every egg she can get her hands on, we now have a lot of very free range chickens, ducks & even a flock of nutty guinea fowl running around like lunatics, most will probably pop over to visit you at some point, you're more than welcome to feed them if you wish.
Frequently seen at Windy Ridge are Rabbits, Pheasants, wild Geese, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Cuckoo, Muntjac, lots of wild Birds, there’s also 2 Kingfishers that live on the old Island in the lake.
Please feel free to bring along some bread/lettuce/carrots/cabbage/tomatoes to feed the chickens/guinea fowl & the rabbits on the camp site (or you could buy a bag of bird food from our egg shack for £1).

Things to do;

There’s plenty to do for the more active among you, such as walking along the many public footpaths nearby, Bird watching at the RSPB Nature Reserve just down the road at Tetney Marshes, you can walk your dog over to the Tetney blow wells, ride your bikes up to Cleethorpes or simply relax with a glass or three of vino.
We're roughly 4 miles by main road from Cleethorpes with it’s lovely sandy beaches, shopping and restaurants
(many of our campers cycle or walk there via the quite car free back lanes), we're only 10 miles from Louth which has a little market every Wed, Fri & Sat. For all you speed freaks, we're just 17 miles from Cadwell Park Race Track.
Lincoln Cathedral, Conningsby for the “Battle of Britain memorial flight”, Donna Nook for the Seal colonies (Oct-Jan), Horncastle for the antique shops, East Kirkby for the Lancaster “Just Jane” are all within a short drive.

Adults Only;

Our site is really for those people looking for a little peace and tranquillity and in the pursuit of this we're strictly an "ADULTS ONLY”  site, no children under 18 yrs of age are allowed on the camp site, so if your looking for a hide away, without any shouting screaming kids our place will probably suit you.

Facilities;

Our drinking water supply comes from our very own well & is filtered via the  chalk hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds,
 it's probably some of the tastiest water you're ever likely to drink, it also has the added benefits of being undiluted, Non fattening, Vegan, Veggie & Eco friendly  (This time next year Rodney).

We have the water tested yearly, so you could say, that all the water you drink at windy Ridge has been passed by a lady from the local council, lol.

Very Free Range Eggs for Sale;
For those of you that enjoy a really nice tasty dippy egg or omelette, you'll be glad to know that we can supply you with freshly laid eggs at £1.50 for 6 eggs from our very very free range hen
s & depending on the time of year we sometimes have Guinea Fowl & Duck eggs available.
During high season the eggs go very fast so if you wish to have some put aside for your arrival please just mention it to Barb when you book.
You'll find the eggs & chicken seed for sale in the egg shack out front of the house by the car park, if there's no eggs in the shack just ask Barb as she may have some squirreled away.

The cheeky chickens like nothing more than hopping in to your cottages even your car and having a little nose about, please don't be scared they wont hurt you.
Please feel free to feed the little scamps if you wish, they love bread/rice/pasta/tomatoes/lettuce/cheese/seed etc .

Pets;
This is a fairly laid back site where quite well behaved pets are more than welcome, we do insist that all dogs are kept on leads at all times whilst at Windy Ridge due to our free range Chickens / guinea Fowl & Ducks, but never fear  there are plenty of places to walk your dogs on or off the leads just outside the gates and if you ask us we'll tell you of some nice places to go walking with or without dogs a bit farther afield.
